Why I Don’t Use Eyebrow Stencils

When grooming your eyebrows, a brow stencil may seem tempting to reach for.

eyebrow stencilsWe all have busy lives and want to look presentable – yet there may be consequences for this path. Understandably, quick solutions are tempting, but a pre-made object can snag the hair and make your brows unravel from the products not correctly bonding. Plus, everyone has been blessed with their natural arch making these staples outweigh minute details like an uneven shave or gaps in colour.

In this blog post, I will explain why eyebrows should never be defined by the harsh lines of a stencil and suggest alternative ways to get the perfect eyebrows that are flattering on every face shape. With just five minutes each day, you can take control of your eyebrow game and make sure no one ever mistakes “on fleek” for ‘overdone`.  I know how important it is to look your best and present yourself most confidently.

Regarding my beauty routine, I’ve tried every trick out there when perfecting my eyebrows—from using brow pencils and gels to experimenting with different shapes like an arch or soft angle. But one thing that never stuck was using eyebrow stencils. While eyebrow stencils may be an enticing way to create the perfect eyebrow shape quickly, I shy away from them.

As eyebrow fashion has become more versatile in recent years, so have eyebrow shaping techniques – eyebrow stencils are becoming less popular among makeup artists, who opt instead for eyebrow fill-in methods that create more flexibility and movement in each eyebrow look. Since it’s important for me to achieve a natural look with a tailored finish, I stick to whatever time-tested  methods and tools I’m comfortable with.

Perfectly sculpted eyebrows are the key to a polished makeup look. However, as busy female professionals, time is of the essence and we don’t have time to fuss over our brows. For years, many of my clients used eyebrow stencils to speed up their morning routine. After all, who doesn’t want perfectly symmetrical eyebrows in five minutes or less?

Well, here’s why I no longer use eyebrow stencils …

Let me start by saying that there is nothing wrong with using eyebrow stencils if it works for you. However, one of the main problems with using eyebrow stencils is that they tend to give you a very cookie-cutter look. It’s often too rigid and inflexible for natural-looking brows. This can result in your eyebrows looking like they were drawn on with an Exacto knife instead of being soft and subtle.

Additionally, since everyone has a different face shape & eyebrows, it can be difficult to find a stencil that works for you. By using a one-size-fits-all stencil, you aren’t able to create a unique shape that perfectly fits your face. Instead of looking natural and beautiful, your brows may look overly uniform or contrived. Often the shapes in the kit don’t match up with your facial structure, resulting in misaligned brows that look unnatural.  It can be hard to precisely place the stencil onto your brow without slipping or shifting. If this happens, then your results won’t turn out as expected, and you might have difficulty getting both sides to look even and symmetrical.

Not only does this take more time than it would if you did them freehand, but it also makes filling in your brows more difficult since you need to fill in around the shape of the stencil instead of following your natural brow line. So relying on an eyebrow template could lead to an unnatural look that isn’t necessarily flattering.

Effective Method I Tried Before For Perfectly Shaped Eyebrows

So if I didn’t use eyebrow stencils, how do I achieve perfectly shaped eyebrows when I’m in a rush? I used an angle brush and powder to fill in my eyebrows subtly. This creates a softer look that is still defined and clean without looking overly done or drawn on. Since I am using a brush instead of pencil or gel liner, I can easily vary my strokes and create small hair-like textures that mimic natural hairs making my finished look much more believable than when using a stencil. Plus, because I have complete control over where the shadow falls on my skin, I can customise my results based on my face shape rather than relying on someone else’s idea of what looks good on me.

I also keep in mind the shape of my face while shaping my eyebrows – this ensures that they will be proportionate and complimenting rather than overpowering or off-putting. Finally, once all unwanted hairs are removed, I brush through the remaining hairs with a spoolie brush so that everything looks neat and natural-looking before applying any makeup products over the top.

In conclusion, while eyebrow stencil kits might seem easy to get perfectly symmetrical eyebrows in minutes, they can lead to overworked brows that lack dimension and definition. They may work well for some people, but their lack of versatility makes them impractical for many busy professionals like us who want customised results without spending too much time on their beauty routines every morning!

You will save time and achieve beautiful results that fit your unique facial structure – minus all the hassle!
