What’s the Right Brow Style for Me?

Attention all ladies that fell victim to the ’90s overplucked eyebrows, if you’re looking to improve your brow appearance, and add more definition and shape to your face, then permanent makeup may be a good option.

A few things to consider before getting permanent makeup, such as the shape and colour of your natural brows and the type of look you want to achieve.

Remember that there is no one-size-fits-all regarding eyebrows, so take the time to think about what you’d like yours to look like.

This blog post will dive deep into what you need to know about this miracle treatment to find the right brow style.

So if you are lucky enough to have thick, dark brows, you can rock any style, provided your skin is blemish free.

But if you have thinner, lighter brows, you’ll want to be more careful with your choice. Do you have sparse areas that need to be filled in? Are your brows too thick or unruly?

Have a think about how you would describe your natural brow hair (if any) and your skin type. Both of these will have considerable importance to your decision.

Once you’ve assessed your natural brow texture and skin type, you can start considering which style will suit you best. Here are a few of the most popular options:

Powdered Brows:

Sometimes known as machine brows or ombre brows are ideal for those with sparse eyebrows to those with little to no natural brow hair. I’d even argue that almost everyone over 45 needs their version of a powder brow. It is by far the most popular style of brow provided in clinics at the moment. The powder filling gives the illusion of fuller, more voluminous brows and heals as if you yourself have put your brow pencil in them, but of course better! It’s the most versatile style of PMU on the market and can be customised in density to suit the individual enabling the artist to layer depth of colour if required.

This style is perfect for all skin types, and if you have oily skin, this is one of the only permanent makeup options. Powdered brows will sit nicely on the skin, unlike microblading and give makeup a fresh style all day.

It’s long-lasting, and completing the required two initial treatment results can last up to 3 years before a touch-up is required.

Powdered brows are created using a digital machine that inserts pigment into the dermis (the second layer of skin). The needles are very fine and create a powder-like effect as they tap the pigment into the skin.

Microblading:

Microblading is perfect for those who want to add definition and shape to their brows but have them look like natural hair. This brow style is also perfect for those who want to add a little fullness but nothing too dramatic.

Microblading is fantastic for normal/dry skin types that are blemish free but unsuited to those with large pores or thicker textured skin. If you have oily skin, the pigment will not hold well over time, and you may find that touch-ups are needed more frequently as oily skin will cause the pigment to fade and not heal as crisp and sharp. This can be a great option for dry/mature skin types as it can help lift and define the brows giving them a more youthful appearance but will depend on the individual.

Microblading is a manual technique using a very fine blade to deposit pigment into the epidermis (the first layer of skin). The needles are much finer than those used in machine methods, creating thin, hair-like strokes that look natural when healed.

This style generally lasts between 12-18 months as the pigment is only implanted into the epidermis, not the dermis, as with machine methods. Microblading can be a life-changing treatment for many people; the downside to this style is that long term, it’s only suited to specific skin types.

Combination brows:

As the name suggests, this style is a combination of both powder and microblading. It’s perfect for those who want the best of both worlds!

This style is perfect for all skin types, and if you have oily skin, this is one of the only permanent makeup options. The powder filling gives the illusion of fuller, more voluminous brows and heals as if you yourself have put your brow pencil in them, but of course better! The front of the brow is detailed in strokes of microblading to replicate the hair growth.

It’s long-lasting, and completing the required two initial treatment results can last up to 3 years before a touch-up is required. Combination brows will give you the definition and fullness you’re looking for.

This style, by far, is the most requested here at Bonita HQ, and honestly, I agree it’s hard to beat! As mentioned, this style offers a hair-like stroke method in the front of the brows, a thicker shapely style in the arch & tail where most clients have lost shape, and a happy medium for those looking for shape while keeping the brow natural in appearance.

So, what’s the right brow style for you? If you’re looking for a natural look with added definition and shape, microblading may be perfect for you. If you want fuller, more voluminous brows, try powdered brows. Or, if you want the best of both worlds, go for combination brows! No matter which style you choose, consult a professional to ensure that your new eyebrows look their best.
